To succeed in this new paradigm, where machine learning and artificial intelligence are driving all industries' practices to levels never before seen, a revitalized brand of global leadership is essential. With rapid changes in the healthcare industry comes increased demand for nimble, innovative, and creative leaders.

This healthcare concentration is a new option for Thunderbird’s specialized Master of Global Management (MGM) degree program, which earned the No. 1 Master's in Management ranking in the Times Higher Education/WSJ 2019 Business Schools Report. The program explores the impact of decentralization on delivery of healthcare services, the future of healthcare services, how to adapt to changing stakeholder needs, the impact and opportunities of technology, and a wide range of healthcare-related business content.

Program Outline

The program consists of 49 credits in total. 43 credit hours online will be a blend of video lectures, simulations, exercises, and exams as well as active discussion and team-based learning. The curriculum will explore topics such as global accounting, health administration and management, financial value creation for leaders, digital and data decision-making, global leadership, personal development, global marketing strategy, and international communication and negotiation.

6 credit hours are designed as in-person applied project practicums where students will identify, analyze, and solve problems for real-world clients in the healthcare industry. Students will travel to international locations selected by the clients involved in the projects.

Outcomes

Graduates of the Master of Global Management in Healthcare Services co-created by Arizona State University’s Thunderbird School of Global Management and Dignity Health Global Education (DHGE) will gain confidence, knowledge, and skills in the following areas:

  • Application fees $70 domestic and $115 international
  • Program deposit: $500. The ​enrollment deposit ​confirms your acceptance of admission and reserves ​your ​seat ​in ​the ​program, allowing you to register for your first term courses. All ​deposit funds ​are ​​applied ​to ​your ​student ​account.

Who should study this program?

This blended online master’s degree program is designed for healthcare professionals in middle to senior management positions looking to gain global perspectives and identify international opportunities within the healthcare sector.

The target audience for the concentration includes current or aspiring managers in healthcare that would like to hone their leadership and management skills and position themselves to move into leadership. Some healthcare practitioners, such as nurses and doctors, may also use the degree as a way to move from clinical practice into management. Students will gain perspectives on both global management and healthcare delivery.

Dr. Tom Hunsaker

Dr. Hunsaker is Associate Dean of Innovation for the world’s top-ranked global management program and Thunderbird School of Global Management. He is a multiple recipient of the Distinguished Teaching Award. As Lead of Thunderbird Applied Learning, he has been delivering engagements that involve team-based, client-facing, project-driven consulting experiences in over 30 countries on five continents. Dr. Hunsaker has influenced innovation strategy at prominent firms from the Fortune 500 companies to emerging startups.

Dr. Gary Gibbons

Dr. Gibbons is a clinical associate professor at Thunderbird School of Global Management. He is an expert in entrepreneurial and corporate finance. He has managed portfolios with healthcare-related investments, has been engaged to raise capital, and to value and make capital allocations for companies in the healthcare space. He has also done financial modeling and planning for healthcare related firms. Dr. Gibbons is a member of the Advisory Board for the Journal of Private Equity. He has a diverse range of experience in teaching both global finance and global entrepreneurship. He is a member of several academic honor societies and other professional societies and organizations. He received his PhD from the Peter F. Drucker Graduate School of Business at the Claremont Graduate University.

Dr. Rick Hall

Dr. Hall is a senior director and clinical professor at the Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation at Arizona State University, where he teaches courses in health entrepreneurship, leadership, and innovation methodology. He is the director for the Master of Healthcare Innovation degree, the Executive Fellowship in Innovation Health Leadership, the Health Entrepreneur Accelerator Lab, and the MAYO Clinic /ASU MedTech Accelerator.
